This red wine from the Piedmontese winery Marziano Abbona, the only Barbaresco Cru located in the municipality of Treiso, is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes. The vineyards are located north-east of the city of Alba, near the Tanaro river. It is a convivial wine, persuasive without ever being too invasive. After the grapes are harvested by hand, they are destemmed and crushed, followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins, with the help of indigenous yeasts. After 18 days of fermentation in steel, the wine is racked and transferred to 500-litre oak barrels, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The final stage of ageing takes place in barrels for 20 months, followed by blending in steel, filtration and bottling. Before being released for sale, this Barbaresco is left to rest in the bottle for 18 months.
Characteristics of this Piedmont wine
It has a deep ruby red colour with garnet reflections. The bouquet is very intense, reminiscent of red fruits, undergrowth and balsamic herbs. Powerful on the palate and remarkably persistent, with an enveloping tannic texture.
Recommended pairings with this red wine
Try it with particularly elaborate red meat and game dishes: braised meats, stews, fillet with green pepper. Also excellent with mature cheeses. Serve at a temperature of 18-20°C.
