Merlot di Feudo Arancio was born in the Sambuca di Sicilia area, in the province of Agrigento, where the international grape variety finds ideal conditions thanks to well-drained soil and a not excessively sunny exposure, useful for preserving the aromatic fineness of the grapes. The harvest takes place at full phenolic ripening, generally between the end of August and the beginning of September. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and subjected to alcoholic fermentation with maceration on the skins for approximately 10 days in steel tanks at a controlled temperature around 26 °C. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak barriques for about 10 months, a phase that enriches the wine with spicy notes and helps integrate its structure without weighing it down.
Characteristics of this Sicilian wine
In the calyx it has an intense ruby red colour with slight purple reflections. On the nose it is broad and fruity, with notes of ripe cherry, raspberry and blackberry, accompanied by shades of red fruit jam and delicate spicy and slightly toasted sensations resulting from aging in wood. On the palate it is a medium-structured wine, characterised by an enveloping softness and velvety tannins that make it harmonious and flowing. The taste profile remains centered on red fruit, with a successful balance between freshness and roundness.
Recommended pairings with this red wine from Feudo Arancio
It is a versatile red that pairs well with cured meats, vegetable soups, grilled meats, roasts and medium-aged cheeses. Its softness also makes it suitable for slightly spiced dishes or simpler preparations of everyday cooking. The ideal serving temperature is between 16 and 18 °C, so as to enhance its fruity component and the softness of the sip.
