CONTERNO FANTINO
The Conterno Fantino Winery is one of the most prestigious wineries in the contemporary Langhe, located in Monforte d'Alba, in the heart of the Barolo region. It was officially born in 1982 from the union of three friends and founding members: Claudio Conterno, Guido Fantino, and Guido Rivella, three figures from different experiences but united by the desire to give a new interpretation to Nebbiolo and the great wines of the Langhe. From the very beginning, the aim has been to combine tradition and innovation, with a strong focus on quality in the vineyard and a more modern oenological style than the Piedmontese classical school. The winery's growth is closely linked to its own vineyards located in some of Monforte d'Alba's most suitable MGAs, including the famous Ginestra cru, which gave rise to one of the company's most iconic Barolos. Alongside this iconic vineyard, Conterno Fantino also works other important plots such as Bussia and Mosconi, all characterised by soils rich in calcareous marl and ideal exposures for Nebbiolo. One of the winery's distinctive features is its highly sustainable and organic approach: Conterno Fantino was among the first wineries in the Langhe to undertake certified organic farming, with a strong focus on biodiversity, soil health, and reducing chemical interventions in the vineyard. This approach has profoundly influenced the style of the wines, making them expressive, pure and directly linked to the territory. From an oenological point of view, the company philosophy is based on delicate winemaking, controlled fermentations and balanced use of wood, with a preference for large barrels and less invasive woods compared to the more traditional style. The goal is to enhance the finesse of Nebbiolo, maintaining elegance, freshness, and aging ability, without weighing down the wine with excessive extractions or dominant wood. In addition to Barolo, the winery also produces Barbera, Dolcetto, and Langhe Nebbiolo, always with the same qualitative and territorial approach. The company headquarters, located on a panoramic hill in Monforte d'Alba, was designed according to criteria of environmental sustainability and integration with the landscape, reflecting the winery's green philosophy. Today, Conterno Fantino is considered one of the most important names in modern Barolo: a company that has combined family roots, technical innovation, and profound respect for the area, helping to redefine the contemporary style of Nebbiolo delle Langhe.
