Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC “Lutum” from Tenuta Antonini is a white wine that interprets in a modern key one of the most widespread and traditional native grape varieties of the region, Trebbiano Abruzzese. The name “Lutum”, which recalls earth and clay, underlines the strong connection with the territory of the Teramo Hills, where soils rich in clay components contribute to giving structure and complexity to the wine. Production begins with a careful selection of grapes, harvested manually in vineyards located between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso, an area characterized by significant temperature variations that favor a balance between freshness and aromatic ripeness. After soft pressing, fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature to preserve the fragrance of the fruit. The peculiarity of “Lutum” lies in its refinement, which is not limited to steel but also involves a maturation phase on the fine lees, with periodic bâtonnage, thus increasing the complexity, structure and sensation of softness without losing the typical freshness of the grape variety.
Characteristics of this Trebbiano Lutum
On organoleptic examination it appears with an intense and bright straw yellow colour. On the nose it is more complex than a traditional Trebbiano, with aromas of ripe white-fleshed fruit, citrus, wildflowers and light notes of aromatic herbs, accompanied by a delicate mineral sensation that recalls clay soil. In the mouth it is balanced and of good structure, with a well-integrated freshness and a savouriness that gives depth to the sip. The finish is long, harmonious and slightly fruity, with a persistence that highlights the greater complexity of the wine compared to simpler versions of the grape variety.
Recommended pairings with this white wine from Tenuta Antonini
It is a versatile but characterful white wine, suitable for accompanying seafood appetizers, fish-based first courses, delicate white meats and fresh or medium-aged cheeses. Thanks to its structure it can also support slightly more elaborate preparations than the classic Trebbiano. The ideal service temperature is between 8 and 10 °C.
