Wine description

The red of Montalcino of The Poggione winery is a younger version of the Brunello but it has already a good structure and personality. The Rosso di Montalcino is a very important wine because it represents the traditional essence of this winery and it valorizes the territory. It is the farmers wine. It is produced by Sangiovese grapes and it matures for 12 months in big barrels and it follows a bottle aging too. The aging in wood gives to this wine complex aromas and structure which make it the “young Brunello” with a lighter tannins quantity. The denomination is the classic “Rosso di Montalcino” and the grapes used is 100% Sangiovese. The cultivation soils are in the winery estate at 150-450 meters above the sea level. The picking is manual. The wine making process lasts 15 days in stainless steel tanks with indigenes yeasts at 25/28 °C. it takes place the malolactic fermentation. The aging period lasts 12 months in big French oak barrels of 30-50 hl and in barrels of 350 liters and it follows the bottle aging period.
