Giulio Cocchi Spumanti is one of Piedmont's most important and iconic companies in the world of flavored wines and traditional sparkling wines. Born in 1891 in Asti on the initiative of Giulio Cocchi, a young pastry chef of Tuscan origin who moved to Piedmont and was fascinated by the local food and wine culture, especially Moscato and the tradition of wines flavored with herbs and spices. He started his business in Asti, developing recipes that would become historic such as Barolo Chinato, Americano and various Vermouths. Since the early years, his idea has been innovative: not only to produce, but also to create places for tasting and disseminating the product. In fact, already in the early ’900s, Cocchi stores and bars were created which contributed to making the brand known and recognizable. During the twentieth century, the company became an international reference for Turin Vermouth and aromatized wines, experiencing great expansion during the Belle Époque and establishing itself on foreign markets. Even today “Historic Vermouth di Torino” is one of the symbolic products of the modern rebirth of the category. Another key element of recent history is the entry of the Bava family in 1978, which brought the winery back to a high level of quality, modernizing production but maintaining the original recipes and traditional style. The winery's distinctive feature is its dual identity: on the one hand, a great tradition of aromatized wines and historic vermouths, and on the other, a strong vocation for the Piedmontese Classic Method. Cocchi is in fact one of the protagonists of the Alta Langa DOCG, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sparkling wines produced with long refermentation on the yeasts.
