BAVA

The history of Cantina Bava began in Cocconato d’Asti, a hillside village in the Monferrato region, where records show the Bava family has been growing vines since the 1600s. The modern winemaking business took shape in 1911, when the family’s first winery was built, marking the start of a production journey that has evolved over time to become a benchmark for Piedmontese viticulture. Throughout the 20th century, the estate grew steadily, spanning over a hundred harvests and passing through several generations of the family, right up to the current management, which represents the sixth generation. This family continuity has enabled the estate to maintain a strong connection with the local area whilst developing an entrepreneurial vision focused on quality and innovation. From the post-war period onwards, the winery strengthened its presence on the national and international markets, expanding production and constantly improving winemaking techniques. A significant milestone occurred in 1975, when Bava introduced the use of barriques, becoming one of the pioneering estates in Piedmont to utilise small oak barrels for wine ageing. Today, the estate owns around 50–55 hectares of vineyards spread across Monferrato and the Langhe, with holdings in the areas of Cocconato, Agliano and Castiglione Falletto. The winery’s philosophy is rooted in sustainable agriculture, with a strong focus on environmental protection, the use of grass cover in the vineyards and the reduction of chemical treatments. Cantina Bava is therefore a historic family-run business that combines tradition and innovation, firmly maintaining its Piedmontese identity whilst bringing its wines to international markets with a reputation for quality, innovation and generational continuity.
