This red wine from the Piedmontese winery Bava comes from the estate’s oldest vineyard, situated around the farmhouse on the hillside: the Pianoalto estate is home to enchanting Barbera vineyards, planted on excellent soil that imparts its unique characteristics to the grapes themselves. The Pianoalto grapes, in particular, possess an excellent concentration of sugars and anthocyanins. Following the manual harvest, the grapes are fermented in 53-hectolitre French oak vats. Manual punching down and delestage are carried out until the racking stage. Ageing begins in spring in 1,500-litre double oak casks: this is where malolactic fermentation takes place and where the wine remains for 18 months.
Characteristics of this Piedmont wine
It has an intense ruby red colour tending towards purple. The bouquet is intense and complex, dominated by fruity notes, primarily blackcurrant, but also pepper and tobacco. Harmonious and velvety on the palate, with a perfect balance achieved through ageing in wood.
