The Aosta Valley, one of the regions where wine growing is more extreme, is also one of the largest producers of quality products. I Valdostani wines, and in particular those derived from white grapes, known since ancient times, represent in Italy a small excellence result of a continuous struggle with the uncomfortable conformation of the territory.
The white wine Valdostano, which we have witnessed since the time of the Roman conquest, is located along the Lower Valley that extends on the upper one to reach the slopes of Mont Blanc. Throughout history the production suffered several interruptions, mainly due to the Barbarian invasions and, long after, the arrival of the railroad. It is since the mid-1970s that it takes root in the region of the processes that best enhance this exceptional product of the land and the history of the region.
After years of rural cultivation, an organization structured in associated cooperatives is born in the territory. The emergence of this new form of cultivation and distribution has allowed a greater development of the territory and an offer that, both in quantity and quality, is decidedly superior to the past and which has made Valle D'Aosta white wines among those of great name in the environment of lovers of this beverage.
Several vines from which are derived the fantastic white Valdostan wines , all excellent for every aspect, rewarding the hard work and dedication with which the winegrowers in the area have managed to snatch the land necessary for their planting in a harsh and difficult environment, thanks to the technique of cultivation on terraces and eyelashes without special methods of water control.
Among these, for example, the grape variety Blanc de Morgex extends from the municipality of Morgex to the neighbouring one of La Salle. A culture at over 1200 meters of altitude that develops upwards, step by step, defying the laws of nature and physics.
The main feature of this variety is the ability to complete its vegetative cycle in a space of time extremely reduced compared to other types of white grapes, and this gives it gives this typical Aosta Valley white wine an intense and elegant scent, rich in mountain scents and fresh fruit that make it unique.
Very particular also the one called "Ice Wine" which is one of the most interesting and particular because the harvest takes place during the night at very low temperatures and this gives it a unique and unrepeatable character that can hardly be enjoyed in others.
Despite the objective difficulties that the winemakers encounter in their activity, this does not prevent the improvement of the quality of each of their creations and the presence of an excellent variety of vines. It is the case of that typical white wine that is represented by the Chardonnay Aosta Valley, produced in the territories that extend along the valley of the Dora Baltea which comes with a straw yellow color and has a fresh and pleasant scent.
Thanks to these characteristics and its dry, but lively, it finds its ideal match with appetizers, both sea and land, vegetables or spices, with a ductility that does not disdain cheeses or meat.
Of particular importance is also the Petite Arvine, valuable vine that grows at slightly lower altitudes, between 600 and 1000 meters, with a late ripening and that thanks to the temperature variations between day and night, gives this white wine Valle d'Aosta an intense and decisive fragrance.
