Wine description

The red wines of Friuli are exalted by the production of Bastianich cellar. “Schioppettino” belongs to the line “Vini Orsone” and praise the denomination DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli. The vineyards are in Cividale, included in the prestigious DOC areas of Colli Orientali and Ipplis. This wine is produced with 100% Schioppettino, cultivated on soils characterized by marl, clay and limestone. The age of the plants is around 20 years old. The wine-making process respect the tradition and the main features of the variety. It starts with the classic soft pressing, followed by the elimination of stalks. 25 days fermentation and maceration on skins, managed at 25°C. The aging, that begins after clarification and filtration, lasts for 7 months. It is developed initially in steel containers, to continue in the bottle for 2 months before the selling.

 

Features of SChioppettino “Vini Orsone” DOC

The organoleptic analysis shows a light ruby red colour with purple shades. Its chromatic feature are the positive results of the long fermentation. The scent is dominated by spices, expecially black pepper, joined to sweet fruits, like plums, that makes it more elegant and balanced. Its taste is classy, with vivid tannins and good acidity balanced by the aging.
