Wine description

The history of the Contini Family has been intertwined with viticulture since 1898, when the founder Salvatore Contini began to devote his soul and body to the production of Sardinian wines and their enhancement: For example, it was thanks to its commitment and dedication that Vernaccia became the first wine in Sardinia to obtain the denomination of controlled origin. The estates of the Contini family amount to about 100 hectares divided between Penisola del Sinis, Pendici del Monte Arci and Valle del Tirso. It is right near this last one that is produced the Cannonau "Tonaghe", with Cannonau grapes and other local red. The name is due to the fact that in some areas of Sardinia, the most woody part of the bunch is called precisely tonaghe. After the harvest, which takes place in mid-September, the grapes are crushed, fermented and ripened. For some months it is then aged in steel and in bottle.

Characteristics of this Sardinian wine

It has an intense ruby color tending to garnet if left to age. The nose is rich and fruity with hints of blueberry, plum and Mediterranean scrub. In the mouth it is a drinking wine, with medium structure and a fresh persistence.

Suggested pairings tasting this wine from Cantina Contini

Excellent to accompany first and second courses of meat and game; irresistible with Sardinian pecorino with myrtle. The optimal serving temperature is 16ºC in a glass not very wide.
