CONTI ZECCA

The history of the Conti Zecca Winery is inextricably linked to the city of Leverano from 1580 when Francesco Antonio Zecca leaves Campania to move to these fertile Apulian lands: the particular period will play in favor of this choice, as thanks to the exports of grapes and wine Salento is the beating heart of the Bourbon Kingdom as regards trade with Sweden, Denmark, England and France. Precisely for the contribution given to the development of these places, the Zecca family acquired the title in 1884 thus becoming a noble family. At the beginning of the twentieth century, his son Alcibiade began to experiment, bottling the first flasks of red "Saraceno" from the name of the estate itself: in the 40s he founded the winery based in Leverano, as well as the first Conti Zecca label, Donna Marzia . The idea of viticulture that is at the center of the vision of this Apulian winery sees the revaluation and use of native vines such as Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia Nera and Bianca, as well as the revaluation of the Salento area and in particular of Leverano, "the city of flowers", an agricultural center located a few kilometers from the Ionian coast and characterized by a mild climate and particularly fertile soil.
