This white wine from Cantina Tunella is made from hand-harvested Pignolo grapes: the vineyards are situated in the hills of Eastern Friuli, on soils of marl and sandstone known as ‘ponche’. The harvest takes place during the first week of October: this is followed by destemming and crushing, yielding a must that will then ferment for around twenty days. During this phase, frequent pumping-over is carried out to encourage the transfer of colour from the skins to the must. The ageing process takes four years.
Characteristics of this Pignolo from Cantina Tunella
It has a ruby red colour with garnet highlights: the bouquet evokes notes of undergrowth, spices, red berries and tobacco, with hints of balsamic notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dense and enveloping, with an elegant tannic structure.
Recommended pairings for this Friulian red wine
Excellent with game dishes, braised meats, grilled meats and stews. Try it with mature cheeses. Serve at a temperature of 18–20°C.
